Hi, I’m Mesha Noor and I was an artist long before I became a storyteller for the screen. My journey into the world of South Asian history didn’t begin in a library; it began at home, with a paintbrush in hand and my mother by my side, teaching me each stroke and type of paint. I never sat in a formal art classroom. I didn’t follow a traditional syllabus. My first and only teacher was my mother—she gave me the tools to see the world as a composition and the courage to express it.
Many of you know me through my YouTube channels, Tareekhi Tales and Tareekhi Tales Urdu. People often ask which came first: the history or the art?
The truth is, they are inseparable. My research into historical architecture feeds my paintings, and my paintings allow me to process the weight of the stories I tell on screen. While my videos provide the facts, my art provides the atmosphere.
The Art of the Layered Past
My creative process is as layered as the history I study. I work primarily in mixed media, creating a unique dialogue between ink and oil paint.
I use ink to capture the “bones” of history—the sharp architectural lines of Mughal arches, the intricate geometry of jaali screens, and the structural skeletons of ancient monuments. I layer these foundations with oils to bring in warmth, light, and depth. The fluid nature of oil allows me to recreate the atmospheric haze of a South Asian sunset or the weathered patina of centuries-old stone.
This combination allows me to bridge the gap between a historical blueprint and a living, breathing memory.
